Many children in our community do not own their own books. We know that early reading experiences and book ownership are a fundamental part of successfully developing confidence in language and literacy learning, but large numbers of our young children live in families whose resources cannot stretch to include books of their own.

At the same time, there are many families in our community with large numbers of quality books that their children have outgrown and no longer need. As a result, these books are denied their ongoing value by gathering dust when they could be bringing so much joy and learning to others, all over again.

Book Friends is a not-for-profit organisation managing the recycling and sharing of pre-loved and gently used children's books. It does this by gifting donated books and placing them in the hands of young children who need them most.

Books are obtained through ongoing community book drives and private donations. Book Friends relies on the support of schools and other local community organisations to ensure a steady supply of a wide range of pre-loved and gently used books of interest to all children from birth to 12 years of age

Connection with the recipients of the book gifts is made through public schools and local community services and organisations.
